Kings Equestrian Trainers

Horse & Rider Education plays a key role at Kings. Therefore, we aim to have at least one well known high level trainer every week to give competitors the opportunity of continually improving in their sport. We have provided profiles of each trainer so you can choose the right trainer for you and your horse.

Claire Gaskin

Claire is a registered British Dressage Trainer (plus a registered BHSAI), and currently a BD group 3 rider, competing at Prix St Georges level. Claire has trained with Kate Attlee (International dressage rider and trainer) for the last eight years, and has been a member of the British Dressage North-West Senior Inter-regional Team (medium and advanced medium), and the Senior Home International Team (advanced medium) over the past two years. She is an experienced dressage-to-music competitor, having been placed at regional championships from novice to advanced medium on three different horses over the last three years, and is qualified on her current advanced ride,“Reg”, for the Medium, Advanced Medium, and Prix St Georges music regionals in February 2011.

Claire has only recently made the move to full-time training and competing, but has trained two main pupils and their horses over the last three years to affiliated Regional and National Championship success, current South-west Regional Novice Freestyle Champion, Kathryn Brown and “Ruara” (also third at this year’s Winter National Championships), as well as unaffiliated national success at the Cricklands UK Winter Championships (current Prelim gold medallist, Tracy Moseley and “Willow’s Fortune”).

Dressage is a precise and demanding discipline. Claire focuses on helping to set realistic and achievable goals, and on planning training and competitions in order to maximise potential for individual combinations.

Emma Slater

BSJA Apprentice Coach. Emma Slater has represented Great Britain from young riders onwards - qualifying for the Queen Elizabeth Cup and Hickstead Derby. Emma has won and been placed at Grand Prix and World Cup level both in Europe and North America. With a strong basis on Classical dressage, she has worked and trained with some of the best riders and trainers including; Dolf Keller, Michel Fervers, Beat Maendli, Rodrigo Pessoa and Jessica Kuerten.

Emma is looking forward to a competitive 2008 riding for Ruxton Stud and other owners mainly in showjumping and eventing

Part of the BSJA pilot group gaining the UKCC Level III Emma enjoys coaching horse and rider combinations so that they gain in confidence and develop a successful partnership together.

Lynne Bevan

A winner of the Queen Elizabeth II cup and Ladies National Show Jumping Championship, Lynne Bevan has represented her country both as a Young Rider, winning Team Gold and Individual Silver Medals eventing, and as a Senior Show Jumper in Nations Cup Competitions including the World Team Championships.

Robert Stevens

Robert Stevens is a BE Accredited Coach and International Event rider, who has recently moved to Field Farm Stud, Minety, nr Cirencester.

He has been competing at International level and teaching for over 20 years. He gained his experience from working with top riders in England and America, and rode for The Cabalva and Welton Studs. Rob trains on a regular basis with esteemed Eventing trainer Dot Willis. Rob has also benefited from training with British Team Trainers, Yogi Breisner, Lizzie Murray and Tracie Robinson thanks to the 2012 training pathway.

Rob trains all levels from Pony Club/Riding club to British Team Members. He is particularly skilled at solving jumping problems and is excellent on flatwork too. His ethos on training is the confidence and enjoyment of both horse and rider is paramount - it's meant to be fun, not just hard work!

Joanna Fisher

A chance to train with a Senior British Team Dressage Rider.

Joanna Fisher was a senior British Team rider at international Grand Prix level and was a member of the winning Nations Cup Team at Hickstead in 2004. Competition results include many placings (top four) at Grand Prix level on the German national circuit, including winning the Steinhagen CDN GP Special. 5th at the Gelderland CDI in the Grand Prix special and in 2004 was short listed for the Athens Olympics.

Andrea Verdina

Andrea Verdina has been actively involved in Eventing and Show Jumping for more than 20 years, Andrea has been placed at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and took part at several European Championships, including winning a team medal for Italy in Pau 2001.

Mandy Kent

Mandy is an accomplished horsewoman and her experience and knowledge of show jumping is helping the many riders who come to her clinics at Kings. Having competed at major events, including The Hickstead Derby and at present regularly competing young horses, she combines grid work with jumping a course, giving confidence and understanding to horse and rider.

Karen Nicholas

Karen Nicholas is a qualified BHSII(sm) Instructor with years of experience both competitively and as a trainer. Karen was a previous winner of ‘The Pat Smallwood’ instructor of the year award, and was also invited to become ‘An Associate Trainer’ with the ‘Etoile International German Academy’. She has trained event and dressage riders from pony club through to 4*, and dressage riders from prelim through to PSG, both in this country and abroad.

Karen spent years developing her knowledge and skills, training with Sandra Pearson-Adams (F.B.H.S), Leslie Law (Olympic gold medallist), Ian Silitch (International show jumper) and Stephan Kieswetter (German International Trainer) to name a few. She is now based in Herefordshire and runs many clinics, both private and groups, Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs, team training etc.
